Highlights from Football Festival® Denmark in words, photos and video
We are looking forward to seeing YOU and YOUR team at Football Festival® Denmark 2010. Take a trip around our website, and get inspired. Here you can get a few of the many highlights from Football Festival® Denmark 2009.
Even before Football Festival® Denmark 2009 got started for real, about 100 boys and girls visited the Vejlby-Risskov Sports Centre for the FC Barcelona Football Camp Nordic, to learn how it is to play football in one of the best clubs in the world, FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona was represented by two teams, a B10 and a B12 team as well as six coaches from the FCBEscola – the playpen for budding talents – Besides training the many boys and girls on the football camp, the two teams also participated in Football Festival Denmark 2009 along with 187 other teams from 20 nations – So there was certainly a basis for a lot of exciting and see-worthy matches throughout the festival week.
Opening Ceremony
True to form, the Football Festival® Denmark tournament was opened with a festive display of team colours and great music. The many happy and excited players, coaches and managers – even the referees, entered the Vejlby Stadium to the sounds of pipes and drums. Once all the teams were welcomed onto the pitch, the only living jukebox in Denmark, personified by the band HITS, played a fantastic concert which included popular tunes such as the famous Robbie Williams tune “Lets me entertain you”, “We are the world” by Michael Jackson and many other hits chosen by the participants prior to the concert.
The next days were filled with many exciting matches – especially the B12 Premier Cup class drew a lot of spectator attention, as both the FC Barcelona and a new litter of talents from Kampala Kids League played in that class, as did Danish talents from Brøndby and Swedish side IK Franke.
FFD – City Event
In December of 2008, Football Festival® Denmark was named City Event 2009; this meant that the tournament spread its activities into the city centre, more notably the City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen). Here many formidable matches were played in disciplines such as Street Soccer and Beach Soccer. The boys from MONTA stopped by to show off their trick skills and they hung around afterwards to teach some of the tricks to the players.

Finals and prize ceremony
After a Friday where thunder and lightning threatened to put an end to it all before time, Saturday and the finals arrived. Fortunately the weather gods were merciful, and the tournament was let off with a few showers. The rain did not in any way dampen the spirits of the footballers and the finals went off without a hitch. One of the finals, namely the B12 Premier Cup final turned out to be a bit special, as it was a rematch between The Kampala Kids League and IK Franke from another tournament. Kampala Kids won the first encounter, so one should imagine that the Swedish players were hungry for revenge. That, however, was very far from the truth. In fact the two team’s history is a bit of a success story. After their first meeting at the other tournament, they arranged that the IK Franke team should go to Uganda and play some friendlies.
Incidentally the Kampala Kids won comfortably once more, but there were no hard feelings between the teams and they could celebrate together at the prize ceremony.
